Rotoehu Ecological Trust
Welcome to the Rotoehu Ecological Trust website! We are a conservation group dedicated to protecting and managing the North Island Kōkako population in Rotoehu Forest, located in the Bay of Plenty.
Rotoehu Ecological Trust (RET) was officially established as a charitable trust in July 2013. While the main goal of the group is to protect and grow our population of native North Island kōkako, enhancement and protection of the wider broadleaf forest ecosystem is also a key priority. To that end, the Trust holds regular workdays to maintain the areas network of bait stations, carries out pest control, and encourages the public to engage with our environment by calling in the kōkako for visitors. Currently the main activities are pest control within part of Pongakawa Ecological Area for the protection of kokako and the other forest inhabitants. Our current goal is to reach 100 breeding pairs by 2020 which will involve increasing our pest control area to the full extent of Pongakawa Area
