Nukuhou Saltmarsh Care group

Nukuhou Saltmarsh care group formed in 2003 with the aim of protecting rarely seen, marsh birds in the saltmarsh around Nukuhou Stream. It was found that fernbird, banded rail, spotless crake, and bittern were present. The group have developed and now maintain the Nukuhou Saltmarsh Lookout, two kilometres of walking track, with interpretive displays. The group also control predators and weeds on Uretara Island, Ohiwa Harbour.
