In this 2-hour workshop, we’ll celebrate the spirit of Matariki, the Māori New Year, through craft, by creating a set of nine stars using upcycled fabric scraps.
The nine stars of Matariki form a cluster that signals the Māori New Year, each one holding connections to the environment, remembrance, and hopes for the year ahead. You’ll create your own meaningful set of nine stars to hang in your home each year, beginning a special tradition for your whānau.
This is a relaxed, hands-on workshop, perfect for ages 10 and up, offering a gentle way to connect with the season through making.
All sewing machines and materials provided, as well as morning tea snacks and coffee.
