Precious Plastic

Humans have made a lot of plastic, and so much of that becomes waste after a single use. This has caused a massive problem all over the planet, even in places where humans almost never go…

Polar and deep ocean ecosystems are affected, islands of plastic circulate in remote ocean locations, beaches on uninhabited islands are awash with plastic trash.

With ‘good’ management, many single-use household plastics currently go to landfill. But landfill isn’t really a solution if we consider the UN sustainable development goals, which are about taking care of this amazing planet for future generations.

Solutions for Single Use Plastic

Precious Plastic BOP is part of a global, open-source enterprise comprising a range of innovative machines for small-scale plastic recycling.

In the long-term we hope to see single-use plastic designed out of our food and beverage market, but in the short-term, Precious Plastic BOP is working on circular solutions for a plastic resource that currently goes to landfill. Plastic lids are too small for kerbside recycling, but they are ideal for a community recycling enterprise. Using a network of collection points, schools and local organisations across the rohe, we gather this resource and add value through creative recycling. Our main collection and processing point is at Envirohub’s office where the bottle tops are cleaned, sorted, shredded and melted into craft sheets, blocks and moulded items. Through collaboration with a range of artists and community groups we can make our sheets and blocks into products such as earrings, pens, Bluetooth speakers, swings, keychains, hackeysacks, clocks, and more.

If you’d like to support our project, you can head over to our shop to buy one of the products we have made ourselves out of your shredded plastic.
