SUMMARY:Zero Waste Tee Workshop Sustainable Textiles Workshop with Emroce
DESCRIPTION:Discover the art of zero-waste fashion and learn how to make your own oversized T-shirt from scratch.\nIn this hands-on workshop with Emroce designer Emma La Rocca\, you’ll explore simple zero-waste pattern-making techniques to design your own oversized tee. This innovative method uses the entire piece of fabric\, meaning little to no textile waste. Rather than working from conventional patterns that often leave fabric offcuts behind\, this approach respects the creation and use of the fabric in its entirety.\nWith Emma’s guidance\, participants will create a mini paper pattern for their perfect oversized tee. We’ll then cut and sew the tee using your own fabric. This workshop is ideal for creative beginners\, sewing enthusiasts\, fashion students and anyone curious about sustainable textiles and making clothes more thoughtfully.\nWhat to BringRequired:– Minimum 1 metre x full fabric width of your chosen fabric\nHelpful but optional:– Domestic sewing machine (we have a few spaces available for those who don’t have their own machine. Please select that type of ticket if it is still available\, when you book)– Paper scissors and fabric scissors– Long ruler– Set square– Cellotape– Tape measure– Pens or pencil– A4 paper– Binding for T-shirt edges– Chalk\, soap or fabric pen– Snips\nWhen: Friday 19th June 5.30pmWhere: Envirohub 31B Glasgow Street\, TaurangaTickets: $20Spaces limited to 20 participants – bookings essential:

SUMMARY:Clothing Swap for a Cause - Rotorua
DESCRIPTION:Clothing swaps are a fun way to update your wardrobe without adding to the overflowing textile waste problem. \n\nGather friends and up to 10 items each that you are ready to part with.\nRefreshments and a drink provided while we hang the items ready for a 7pm swap.\nYou’ll be issued a token for each garment supplied before paying for any ‘new-to-you’ items with your tokens.\nAll garments must be in clean\, wearable condition only. Women’s\, men’s and children of any size.\nOR!! Bring some fabric you’d like to swap – we can do fabric for fabric or fabric for clothes. A new feature for our Rotorua Clothing Swap\n\nWhen: 6.30pm\, Friday\, June 19th \nWhere: Studio 2\, The Arts Village\, 1240 Hinemaru St\, Rotorua 3010 \nTickets: $5 per person\, includes snacks. REGISTRATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL. \nClothing Swap For a Cause: \nWe’ll have the spotlight on Predator Free Rotorua to raise awareness and funds for the local backyard trapping programme. You’ll be able to take home a FREE backyard trap with your swaps! \n  \nPlease arrive at 6:30pm to allow us time to hang out your clothes before the clothes swap commences at 7:00pm. \nSnacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided whilst you mingle and wait for the clothes swap to begin. \n  \nWhat to bring: \n– Bring a MAXIMUM of 10 garments. Please ensure the garments have NO STAINS\, HOLES\, and are in overall good condition. A good rule of thumb is to bring only things that you would be happy to receive yourself. \n– We also ask that you please DON’T BRING garments from THE WAREHOUSE or KMART e.g. GARAGE and ANKO. We have found that people don’t want them\, meaning we end up with a pile of clothes from these brands after the clothes swap. \n– Only bring garments you are ready to part with. \n– If you’re bringing fabric\, please make sure it’s a useable size for someone else. Hang onto your scraps for another event! \n– Bring some gold coins incase you want to purchase additional garments after swapping \nHow it works: \n– You will get a token for each garment you have bought in to swap (10 MAXIMUM). \n– If your garments haven’t been swapped by the end\, please take them home with you. \n– Each token can be used to ‘purchase’ a garment. \n– If you use up all your tokens\, you can purchase additional garments for a gold coin donation.

SUMMARY:Community Textile Art Workshop Machine Based Textile Manipulation with Lilia Cass
DESCRIPTION:oin textile artist Lilia Cass for a unique collaborative textile art project exploring the creative potential of reclaimed bridal silk. Using off-cuts collected from the Lilia Cass studio\, participants will learn a range of fabric manipulation and textile art techniques while creating an individual artwork that will become part of a larger collaborative installation.\nThis project is not about creating a finished product to take home. Instead\, participants will contribute to a shared artwork that will be displayed at the RE:Stitched Runway Fashion Show\, helping to start conversations about textile waste\, sustainability\, creativity\, and the value of materials often overlooked or discarded. Working with beautiful silk fabrics of varying weights and textures\, participants will explore techniques including gathering\, pleating\, rosette-making\, patchworking\, surface cording\, and hand-finishing. The final installation will combine all participant artworks into a large suspended textile piece accompanied by video documentation exploring the journey from off-cut to artwork.\nNo previous sewing experience is required\, although basic familiarity with a sewing machine may help with Workshop One.\nParticipants will receive complimentary entry to the Stitched Runway Fashion Show\, where the finished collaborative artwork will be unveiled.\nWorkshop One – Gathered Forms & Machine Manipulation (2–3 hours): Technique Demonstrations– Gather bias-fabric strips down the centre to create the surface design– Gathering along edge for rosettes (Hand finishing required)– Pleating and texture creation– Demonstration of bias cording (optional)\nWhen: Saturday July 4th\,10am – 12pmWhere: Envirohub – 31B Glasgow Street\, TaurangaTickets: $10 (or go to both workshops for $15 – see ticket booking link for more info)\nLimited spaces – be sure to book well in advance :
