December 8, 2020 @ 8:00 am - December 24, 2020 @ 5:00 pm
Sustainable Backyards is coming and we have a new format!
Sustainable Backyards (SBY) is a month-long calendar of events in March hosted throughout the Bay. In 2020 we had over 230 free or low-cost Enviro Events supporting sustainable living, conservation and other awesome initiatives that were taking place regionally. SBY aims to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of people in the community via informative workshops and activities. These range anywhere from growing your own food, beach/estuary cleanups, consumer choices, cooking, bush walks, farmers/ night markets, kids events, frock swaps, and movie screenings. SBY provides a mechanism for communities and organisations in the Bay of Plenty to have a voice in the protection of their environment and people.
SBY Aims to benefit the community in the following ways:
- Connect people – via low cost or free events with a broad demographic appeal, including Maori, youth and the elderly.
- Inspire people – Improving the wellbeing and quality of life of people in the community via informative workshops and activities.
- Engage and train people– helping people be proactive in new learning and lifestyles
- A green voice – Provide a mechanism for communities and organisations in the Bay of Plenty to have a voice in the protection of their environment and people via the promotion of local initiatives.
The outcomes are well connected, better informed, resourced and skilled individuals coming together to form resilient communities.
So what’s new?
Firstly, there will be 1 event per day per sub region (31 per sub region, 93 all together). This means we won’t have so many clashes ensuring your event shines on the day and event attendees can get to all the events they want to.
This does mean you will need to get in touch with your local connector to ensure the date you want to run your event is available. Please do get in quick as dates are running out fast!
The second change is the brochure will look a little different. We will be doing 3 sub regional calendars in a fold out calendar in stead of one big brochure for the whole Bay of Plenty region.
Sub regional Connectors:
Western Bay of Plenty: Liesel Carnie, Projects@envirohub.org.nz
Eastern Bay of Plenty: Becs Mackay, Easternbay@envirohub.org.nz
Rotorua: Zoe Spence, Rotorua@envirohub.org.nz
